Fireworks, Friends and 1,440 miles

This past weekend I hopped on a plane (picture below) and celebrated the Fourth of July with friends up in Batavia, NY.  Why Batavia for the 4th you are probably thinking?  While Upstate New York is gorgeous, I went for the people, not the place.  I was meeting up with some friends to go to a wedding.  Being a relatively recent college graduate weddings have become part of my life.

My Plane

This was the wedding of my friends Jenna and Tom. Jenna and I went to Messiah College together and I’ve become friends with Tom in the last year while he’s dated Jenna.

I was excited about this wedding because I knew it would be a reunion of friends I hadn’t seen in months.  As a bonus, a couple parents of those friends I hadn’t seen in a while came were there too!  So it was great to catch up with both my friends and their parents.

Afterward we went to Jenna’s family farm where we grilled out, had a bonfire and hung out with her family and friends.

It was great to share my holiday weekend with friends and their families, and join in the celebration of Jenna and Tom’s marriage.  I was glad I went and celebrated the 4th with them.

How did you spend your 4th?  What traditions does your family have? Let me know in the comments.

Cool pics – sounds like a great time!

Unfortunately for us my wife was terribly sick last week with a upper respritory infection, so we weren’t able to do much. As a matter of fact we ended up turning down three invitations to events that would have been a lot of fun. The Fourth is usually a great day/weekend of celebrations.

Sometimes rest is a good way to celebrate having a full plate of life everyday. Its a celebration of freedom in its purist form I guess. I have to remind myself of that on weekends such as this past one or I feel that I’m simply being lazy – which is not the case.

As much as people complain about our country and our leaders it’s interesting that poll after poll shows so few would ever fathom the idea of living elsewhere.

This company we’ve come to know as “Abunga” is an excellent microcosm of what is so great about a free enterprising democracy. We celebrate our freedom when we show appreciation and support for such businesses.

Thank you for sharing your blog!

@desharp so sorry to hear about your wife’s illness, I do hope that she’s on the road to recovery. I’d agree with your statement about rest, it can certainly help us celebrate the fullness of life that I experience everyday. We are blessed to life in a place of freedom!

    Thanks again!
